Jennifer A. is from Colorado, and was one of forty finalists chosen out of the over 1,000 entries to our “What Advice Would You Give to a Fellow Caregiver?” Contest. You can find our grand prize and runner up winners here.

What advice would you give a fellow caregiver?

Advice to pass on to other caregivers, would include the fact that caring is an action of doing not mere words. It is often the little things that get remembered most, by those we care for – small gestures and actions, which caregivers often take for granted, yet those in our care so appreciate and remember. A reassuring touch, eye contact, an extra moment to put items within reach, and remembering the name of not only the patient, but of loved ones can bring immeasurable joy. To be prompt and timely with our care and follow up is an indelible measure of our professional standard and level of excellence. Compassion, gentleness, thoughtfulness, kindness, and helpfulness embody my care practice. It is by taking the time to listen to patient’s concerns with openness and kindness that rapport can be established and meaningful care can occur. Be gentle in our actions, care, and words.
