Shielry M. is from California, and was one of forty finalists chosen out of the over 1,000 entries to our “What Advice Would You Give to a Fellow Caregiver?” Contest. You can find our grand prize and runner up winners here.

What advice would you give a fellow caregiver?

I am a caregiver for my elderly mother who wears incontinence pads 24/7. Any time family and friends would come to her home, it would smell. This is despite the fact she would empty her trash can multiple times a day. My sister asked what she could bring Mom on her next visit. I told her that extra trash bags would be great because she uses so many. So she suggested we try a Diaper Genie. We put it in the corner of her bathroom. And bingo, no more smelly trash. Not only that, but she was more comfortable and does not feel the need to dump trash so often. This week we had an annual interview with the county health care nurse. I told her about the idea and she was excited. Said she was going to share this with other clients. I told her there are loads of them at thrift stores. The baby boomers used the Diaper Genie for their children and now the boomers need them back!
