The American Diabetes Association and Shield HealthCare understand that diabetes affects the whole family when a loved one is diagnosed, especially when it’s a child. Whether you’re a parent, sibling or other relative, your support and understanding are an important part of the learning process. Today’s interactive technology makes it possible for families to access the latest tools to manage diabetes and find user-friendly support and valuable resources.

Planet D, created by the American Diabetes Association is a new online educational resource for children and teens with diabetes. On the PlanetD website, young people and their families can learn the basics of diabetes, get advice and diabetes tips, read personal stories and profiles of kids with diabetes, find local youth camps and stay connected through message boards.

Another great way to get the entire family involved is to attend a local Diabetes Expo. Click here to view the 2011/2012 Expo Schedule.
