Infection prevention in a healthcare environment is crucial. Hospital-associated infections affect one patient in every 20 admissions, kill 100,000 individuals a year and cost $45 billion.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Safety Health Administration and the Joint Commission are the main agencies and organizations overseeing the methods of infection control to protect patients, their visitors and staff.

In this course, you will learn about the importance of proper hand hygiene, varying hygiene methods, fingernail care, personal protective equipment and infection control safe practices.

Learning Objectives

After completing this free online course, you should be able to:

  • Explain the importance of performing proper hand hygiene.
  • Describe and properly perform the different hand hygiene methods.
  • Perform appropriate fingernail care.
  • Describe the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Demonstrate how to remove personal protective equipment properly.
