Formula manufacturers are using Tetra Pak ® containers for enteral formulas instead of cans. With these changes, you may have questions about how best to store and use these products. The following information is gathered from formula manufacturers.
Storing Tetra Pak® Containers at Home:
In order to prevent damage to the container, here are suggestions for Tetra Pak® storage:
- Store unopened at a temperature between 32°F – 95°F in a dry area.
- Avoid exposure to heat extremes (>104°F) for more than 24 hours.
- Do not store frozen.

Using Dented Tetra Pak® Containers:
Formula in dented Tetra Pak® containers is usable as long as the container is not punctured or leaking.

Hi there,
I would like to know if these Tetra Pak formula in box pack will be safe during a 6 hr flight on checked in luggage and the foil tab will not burst?

Hi Grace. That is an excellent question.
We would recommend taking the formula with you as a carry-on as the cabin will be pressurized. But to be sure this trip is as hassle-free as possible for you, we also recommend calling the airline in advance to inquire about the checked-luggage conditions and carry-on rules. If you decide to pack the formula in checked-luggage – it might be safest to pack the tetras in plastic bags that zip.
Also, the TSA website says to notify the officer before-hand that you have formula and that you request for it not to be opened. Please check out this link to learn more about what TSA recommends for traveling with formula.
