It can be tough to imagine yourself out and about right when you get home from the hospital. But after a few days, you may start to feel antsy. In this video, our Ostomy Lifestyle Specialist, Laura Cox, discusses tips to make sure your first outing after ostomy surgery is pleasant and easy.

Laura’s tips include what clothing options are easiest when going out for the first time, making sure that the location you visit has plenty of restrooms (bonus if you go somewhere with private stalls with sinks included!), bringing along your supplies and medications, and if you feel up for taking a walk, that there are benches available to rest along the way.

If you’ve been an ostomate for awhile, tell us about your first trip out into the world after surgery in the comments.

My 89-year-old mother loves to swim but she has found that the pouch fills with water when she gets into the pool. What can we do to fix this?

We recently had someone reach out to our Facebook community with a similar question, and several of our OstomyLife community members responded with their own advice.

Hopefully you and your mother will find their answers helpful ...
