Share With Us: How Has COVID Changed Caregiving for You?

Shield HealthCare, a leading provider of home-delivered medical supplies, is launching its 19th Annual Caregiver Contest by asking caregivers: “How Has COVID Changed Caregiving?” Our annual Caregiver Contest is an opportunity to honor all those who support and care for loved ones managing chronic medical needs. The contest runs from Nov. 2, 2020 through January 31, 2021.

Last year, we asked caregivers for their tips for finding life balance as a caregiver and received several hundred outstanding entries. Our independent panel of judges (meet our 2019-2020 contest judges) had the difficult job of selecting three grand prize winners and five runners-up. You can find the winning stories here: Grand Prize Winners Lorna, Gail and Andrea; and Runners-Up Brenda, Robin, Melissa, Lauren and Ali*Note: submissions are provided to the judges with first and last initial provided; no name, gender or location identification is otherwise provided to judges during the evaluation period, in order to keep the results fully independent.)

2020-2021 Contest

This year, we are asking caregivers how COVID has changed their experience of caregiving. Whether you are a professional caregiver or caring for a loved one at home, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we provide care. On top of the everyday demands of caring for loved ones, caregivers must navigate the additional challenge of a pandemic that is particularly dangerous to our most vulnerable: our seniors, our immune compromised, and those managing chronic medical needs.

Along with the everyday demands of providing care, how has COVID changed caregiving?

  • What obstacles have you encountered as a caregiver during COVID-19?
  • How have you protected your family and your loved one (or those to whom you provide care) during the pandemic?
  • What changes have you made to your routines, and are they changes you plan to keep?

These are just some suggestions – tell us in 150 words or more how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed caregiving for you.

The top three Grand Prize Winners of Shield’s caregiver contest will each receive a $250 Visa Gift Card and an engraved wall plaque. Five Runners-Up will each receive a $100 Visa Gift Card and a personalized award certificate. Shield will publish the winning and finalist entries on Shield’s community site, a widely-visited educational resource for caregivers, patients, and healthcare professionals.
