To help prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases, precautions have been developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and one of its subsidiaries, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). These include:

  • Universal Precautions
  • CDC Standard Precautions *with new elements
  • CDC Transmission-based Precautions
  • OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard
  • Other prevention strategies

All healthcare professionals should be aware of and follow these precautions. The online video training below will cover best practices to prevent the spread of organisms and better protect patients, visitors and healthcare professionals. This course offers thirty minutes of free continuing education credit.
