Why was Gerber Good Start SoothePro formula recalled?

The product is being recalled out of an abundance of caution due to potential presence of Cronobacter sakazakii. No distributed product has tested positive for the presence of this bacteria, no adverse events have been reported, and no other products manufactured at this facility or any of Perrigo’s or Gerber’s other facilities are affected by this recall.

What is Cronobacter sakazakii?

Cronobacter sakazakii is a bacterium commonly found in the environment. Cronobacter can live in dry foods, like powdered infant formula, powdered milk, herbal teas, and starches. It has also been found in contaminated feeding items like breast pump equipment. Cronobacter infections are often very serious for babies who are younger than 2 months or were born prematurely; they can die. Infections can also be very serious for older people and people whose bodies have trouble fighting germs, like people with HIV, organ transplants, or cancer.

What should I do if I suspect my baby drank the impacted formula?

If you suspect your baby drank the recalled formula, contact your child’s healthcare provider with any health-related questions. For product-related questions, the Gerber Parents Resource Center is available 24/7 at 1-800-777-7690.

Has any Gerber baby food been recalled?

Gerber baby food is not impacted by this recall. Gerber baby food products are manufactured in a completely separate location from Gerber Good Start formula. This product recall only impacts certain batches of Gerber Good Start SoothePro powdered formula.

All Gerber products are continuously and rigorously tested to help ensure both safety and quality.

Does Gerber still own Gerber Good Start formula?

In 2022, Gerber’s Good Start line of formulas transitioned to Perrigo Company plc. Gerber continues to develop and supply baby and toddler foods, including purees, meals and snacks.
