Despite the fact that millions live with incontinence, many don’t talk about it, admit they have it, let alone seek treatment for it. It’s a health condition most adults don’t like to discuss. Be it shame, embarrassment, fear or loss of self-confidence, many who manage living with incontinence often deal with it alone. But more and more celebrities are “coming out” to talk about their experiences. This bravado to discuss the not-so-glamorous topic despite their oh-so-glamorous profession sends a message to all who manage incontinence – you are not alone. Some celebrities are doing their part to raise awareness about this common condition that affects millions of Americans.

Here are several celebrities who have publicly expressed their experiences with incontinence.

Kris Jenner kris jenner
She’s the mother of the Kardashian clan, and is no stranger to shy when it comes to talking about her experience with incontinence. Kris Jenner, keeps it real with “Keeping Up with The Kardashians” and has publicly talked about her battle with bladder control on the television series.
Jenner was diagnosed with urinary stress incontinence. She has been quoted numerous times, “People think they’re the only ones dealing with this…When you realize that the woman sitting next to you is probably going through the same, you feel less lonely.”

 

Samuel L. Jacksonsamuel l jackson

You may know him for his role as Mace Windu in “Star Wars,” or even seen him in Marvel’s “Avengers” He’s graced the big screen numerous times with several box office hits, but did you know that actor Samuel L. Jackson developed a loss of bladder control in his late 40s? While initially embarrassed with the condition, Jackson soon realized that it was an issue that millions of Americans struggle with every day. Jackson has publicly expressed wearing incontinence products on movie sets.

 

Katy Perry
Incontinence doesn’t only target older people. Famous pop singer/songwriter Katy Perry, who rose to fame with some of her hit songs “Hot and Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl” admitted to frequent loss of bladder control at a young age, revealing that she wore adult diapers regularly throughout high school.
Perry went through numerous treatments for loss of bladder control, but her determination to not let incontinence control her life never wavered. Perry’s doctors said her bladder leakage was caused by a urinary tract infection. With some lifestyle changes, Perry found the right treatment, eventually gaining control over her bladder.

 

Whoopi Goldberg whoopi goldberg
Emmy, Grammy, Academy and Tony Award-winning Whoopi Goldberg went public with her experience with bladder leakage. As a spokesperson for incontinence products, Goldberg was part of a campaign to highlight how common incontinence issues are and that light bladder leakage can happen to women of all ages. Goldberg made a series of humorous short films to make light of her bouts with incontinence. Goldberg felt that with as many women who experience it, it should be a topic discussed openly.

 

Stephen King 
He’s sold more than 350 million copies of books, including “The Shining” and “Carrie.” Often described as the “King of Horror,” when author Stephen King began experiencing symptoms of incontinence, he initially thought it was bladder cancer. After being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, King experienced a brief period of incontinence, and while treatment was effective, he’s been noted as saying he keeps incontinence products by his bed “just in case.”

 

Marie Osmond
Can you imagine performing in front of a crowd full of people and experiencing loss of bladder control on stage?
Well it happened to singer, actress and member of the Osmond family, Marie Osmond. As Osmond was performing with her brother Donny on a cruise ship, there was a moment she laughed so hard that she let out a stream of urine during the show. After the initial embarrassment set in, Osmond wiped up the puddle, and as her brother stated, handled it with grace and humor.

 

Tony Romo

Starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo developed a serious bladder infection which resulted in an overactive bladder diagnosis prior to the start of 2009 NFL season. Determined to overcome these issues and remain successful on the playing field, Romo took control of his symptoms, sporting adult absorbent briefs during practice.
