Congratulations to Grand Prize Winner Celsa H. from Illinois.

I have been a caregiver for almost fifteen years and it has definitely changed my perspective of life. Previous to being a caregiver, I had no knowledge of the difficulties so many people go through in their daily lives. I thought the buildings in downtown Chicago were for luxury. However, Chicago buildings are hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and long-term healthcare facilities. Being a caregiver opened my mind up to compassion and acceptance of people with disabilities. Some people are born with a disabilities, while others develop a disability or are acquire it through different circumstances such as a car accident or a gun shot.  I have learned that people with disabilities need caregivers to help them bathe, toilet, cloth, groom, and do many other things they are unable to do physically and mentally. I am very happy I am a caregiver that assists in those daily challenges because I help put a smile on my clients face. I help release some of the stress of being unable to pay a bill or even get on the toilet. I have learned to be patient and put myself in my clients position. Everyday I learn something new whether it’s about a medication, a disability, or medical equipment. This helps me better help my client so she can live as best she can. And this also helps me inform others of the importance caregivers are to the people with disabilities community. Thank you!
